Top Tips to stop overeating

malaysia overeating

The allure of eating is a constant problem among people around the world. While eating is an important and vital part of the day, many people are unable to control how much they eat especially when there are food that we like. So when would enough be really enough and time to say ‘no’? We list out some pointers.
Use your Hands – The best way to gauge how much you should eat is to use your palms as your guide. What you need to do is to put both your palms together to make an imaginary bowl and that should be the amount you need to eat because that is about the size of your stomach anyway.

Dirty the cutleries – If you think you have had enough and wants to stop but there are still a lot of food on the table, dirty your cutleries. It is when you have clean cutleries that will drive you to take more food.

Don’t please others – No doubt the food was made by your mom and she spent hours baking the cake. If you have already taken a piece and given your opinion, then it is good enough. Don’t eat too much just to show that it was good and you want to eat ‘some more’.

The first bites matter – According to studies, the first few bites would be the best time to eat the food. After that, it is all the same. So if you have a full bar of chocolates, take the first few bites, then you don’t have to eat them all.

Use the 80% rule – You would have heard of this by now. Always eat until you are 80% full and there really is no need to go all the way to 100. It becomes more damaging if you are breaching the 100% mark. That means, if you feel full and there is room for some more, then it is time to stop.

No need to finish everything – If there is unfinished food on the table and you are full, then remove them. It has been found that when people see unfinished food on the table, they tend to continue eating because they do not want to ‘waste food’. This will teach you to be more cautious about ordering food next time.

Use smaller plates – This is quite a common practice where people use smaller plates and bring them to the restaurant so that they will automatically take lesser portions.

Eat slowly – People who eat, chew and swallow slowly tend to eat a lot less. This is because the stomach digests the food consumed and they feel full faster.
