Humans today are obsessed with food. One of the latest buzz is the Acai berry which typically is type of fruit from the palm tree species known as the acai palm. It is found mostly around Central and South America where this round shaped fruit is black-purple in colour with a large seed.

The acai berry is one of the most known fruits with Native Americans as it is a staple of a certain community where apart from being used in meals, it is also one of the major ingredients used in the production of Tequila and certain spirits. In recent years, the acai berry has been used as food supplements where it has also been linked with many weight loss programmes and products. It has since been used in instant drink powders, juice, tablets while the fruit has also been marketed. The acai berry’s popularity is perhaps very much contributed by the known effects of weight loss from the likes of the noni juice and the goji berry which have been known as super food in the past.

The acai berry contains antioxidants, fiber, flavonoids, and phytonutrients which are known to have been used in weight loss supplements and such. Naturally, the acai berry is rich with other nutrients like oleic acid, protein, Vitamin B and omega-3 acids as well as manganese, copper and potassium. The anthocyanins in the acai, which is responsible in providing the colour of the fruit and is commonly found in many vegetables and fruits and is a great nutrient which can boost the immune system of the person.
