How to make your own Coconut Oil Toothpaste

The benefits of coconut oil has been often spoken about and deliberated. It has been proven that coconut oil can do wonders for the skin and promote better health. On the other hand, it has been reported too about the toxicity of commercial toothpastes and suggestions of using baking soda to replace this product.

At home, you can now make your own toothpaste using coconut oil and baking soda. This is much safer option and one which is not expensive as well. When you use baking soda, it is not too abrasive to your teeth. The following recipe can be your choice:

What you need?

You will need to use about 3 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil and about the same for baking soda. Besides that, prepare a teaspoon of stevia extract. This is to provide the sweet taste for the mixture and an additional 15 to 25 drops of essential oil like cinnamon or peppermint, whichever to your liking.

First, melt some of the coconut oil using a spoon. Then, stir the ingredients thoroughly with the melted oil for it to cool down. After that, place the mixture into a tube like how a conventional toothpaste should be. Then, allow it to cool down. The best way to store this is with a tube or you can use a jar as well.

You will notice that using this toothpaste for a while will create less plaque on your teeth while it is very effective in removing odor especially when you eat onion or durians. Your teeth can become more polished and your tooth decay risk is lowered tremendously.
